| Jimenez off DL, outrighted with 3 |
| (10/30/09) The Mariners removed reliever Cesar Jimenez (biceps) from the 60-day DL. Jimenez, RHP Randy Messenger, RHP Marwin Vega and 1B Bryan LaHair were outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma, removing them from the Mariners' 40-man roster. All except for Vega could choose to decline the assignment and become free agents. |

| (8/22/09) The Seattle Mariners optioned right-hander Chris Jakubauskas to Triple-A Tacoma and purchased the contract of righty Randy Messenger from their top minor league club. To make room for Messenger on the 40-man roster Saturday, the Mariners released minor league right-hander Luis Pena. |

| Mariners have mess at closer spot |
| (3/13/09) The Mariners have been auditioning several pitchers for the closer's job but have had little success, leading to the signing of Chad Cordero, who won't be ready for opening day. Miguel Batista, Mark Lowe, Roy Corcoran and Randy Messenger have all been mentioned by Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu as candidates but none has emerged as a front-runner. Wakamatsu said the Mariners still have no idea who their closer will be. "It's really about where we started, no one's really stood out," Wakamatsu said. "Guys are still trying to weed their way through it mentally and physically." |
