Marek had been pitching well, but had given up five runs in his last two appearances, possibly as a result of the elbow issue. In 60 outings last season he went 6-2 with a 1.14 ERA. He will be out for at least the next 12 months as a result of this surgery. The long-term potential for Shell is minimal at best. No one should be concerned with either of these moves.
