Preseason Outlook

When the Marlins traded slugger Mike Jacobs for a little-known middle reliever by the name of Leo Nunez, it was believed it was a cost-cutting move. The Marlins wound of getting the best end of that deal, ignoring the money. Jacobs was a bust and the Marlins found a new closer in Nunez, who took over from Matt Lindstrom and saved 26 games -- 22 of 26 in the second half. His saves came with a high ERA, though. Nunez enters spring as the Marlins' closer of choice, especially since Lindstrom was dealt to the Astros. Consider Nunez in the latter rounds of mixed leagues as a solid option for saves. The Marlins have a solid pitching staff and a contender that can get him ample opportunities. (Updated 1/12/10)
