| Phillies send Raul Valdes down |

(5/17/13) The Phillies optioned reliever Raul Valdes to Triple-A Lehigh Valley Friday, to make room on the active roster for B.J. Rosenberg.
Valdes posted a 7.65 ERA in 20 innings of work with the Phillies this season.

| (9/9/12) The Phillies placed pitcher Raul Valdes on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday. The move was made retroactive to Aug. 31. Valdes is expected to miss the remainder of the season following arthroscopic surgery on the meniscus in his right knee.

| Raul Valdes is expected to snag a role in Philadelphia's bullpen in 2013, after his 2012 was cut short by a knee injury. The 35-year-old lefty had a 2.90 ERA and startlingly-low 0.74 WHIP in 31 innings last year, striking out 35 batters in 31 innings. While he's not worth a draft pick in most leagues, keep an eye on Valdez over the first month. If he can keep the WHIP under 1.00, he may be a solid pick-up as a middle reliever who can get holds and keep your team's WHIP low, especially in daily leagues. (Updated 1/4/13) |
