(1/28/14) Free-agent infielder Yuniesky Betancourt has reached an agreement with the Orix Buffaloes in Japan, FOX Sports reports.
Betancourt reportedly drew interest from multiple teams during the offseason, but his move to Japan could possibly mean he couldn't find a guaranteed major-league offer. He hit .212/.240/.355 with 13 home runs and 46 RBI in 391 at-bats with the Brewers last season.

|Yuniesky Betancourt blasts grand slam |
|by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com|
(8/10/13) Brewers infielder Yuniesky Betancourt homered Friday in a 10-5 win at Seattle. Betancourt belted a grand slam off Joe Saunders in the fifth inning with one out.
His 13th home run of the season put the Brewers up 9-2 at the time. He finished 1 for 5 in the game with two runs scored and four driven in. He has 42 RBI on the season to go with his .209 average.
|For an all-too-brief three-week stretch in late April and early May, Yuniesky Betancourt was one of the hottest claims off the waiver wire, making the most of his opportunity to fill in for injured corner infielders Corey Hart and Aramis Ramirez by homering eight times in the span of 20 games. But then, he went back to being the player Fantasy owners have always known him to be, eventually having to settle for just part-time at-bats because of his inability to get on base. He did have a briefer second power surge right after the All-Star break, hitting four home runs in the span of 14 games, but finished with a modest 13 homers on the year. Because of his versatility as a former shortstop, he's a good bet to get a decent number of at-bats regardless of where he lands, but short of a disastrous string of injuries for his new team, he won't play as much as he did in 2013. You can ignore him on Draft Day.
