| Nationals tab Zach Duke for Monday |

(5/18/13) Nationals pitcher Zach Duke will move from the bullpen to the rotation Monday against the Giants, to replace Ross Detwiler for at least one turn. The team announced the move Saturday.
Duke has an 8.40 ERA in 15 innings out of the bullpen this season and has not started since 2011, when he had a 5.47 ERA in nine starts for the Diamondbacks.

(5/16/13) The Nationals are reportedly leaning toward using Craig Stammen, not Zach Duke, in the event that Ross Detwiler cannot start Monday against the Giants. Detwiler is dealing with back spasms and seems likely to miss at least one start.
Duke has an 8.40 ERA on the season, and the team would rather use Stammen, who pitched Wednesday and would be in line to pitch on normal rest if he has to join the rotation, according to The Washington Post.

(4/4/13) After announcing Thursday they re-signed starting pitcher Chris Young, Nationals manager Davey Johnson said Young will be the first pitcher called upon in case the team needs an emergency starter, according to MLB.com.
Zach Duke was originally called upon on the team's sixth starter, but he will now remain in his role as long reliever.
Duke hadn't made a relief appearance entering play Thursday. He posted a 4.50 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 14 spring innings.

(3/26/13) The Nationals will use Zach Duke, expected to pitch out of the bullpen, as the sixth starter if needed this season, reports MLB.com Tuesday.
Duke will be the long man out of the bullpen and spot starter for the Nationals, according to manager Davey Johnson.
Duke, mostly used as a starter over his career, has a 5.40 ERA this spring over seven appearances.
"Zach's still learning how to pitch out of the 'pen," Johnson said. "He's been a starter his whole life. I thought he did a good job last year coming in. But it'll be a learning experience for me and him, and how much he can do coming out of there, since he's the only one out there."
