Fantasy Analysis
The 30-year-old Baker could never get going this season and is done for the year. He won't return to action until at least spring training next season. That said, the Minnesota front office may decline his $9.25 million club option for 2013. Fantasy owners should have already cut Baker is pretty much all Fantasy formats as he's officially done for the season. (Updated 04/17/2012).

The tiers approach is nothing new to Fantasy, but the impact it can have on your draft is undeniable. Scott White shares his tiers by position for 2012, a guide for you to establish your own tiers.
It all seemed to be coming together for Scott Baker last year. After squandering his stellar strikeout-to-walk ratios with high home run rates in previous seasons, his ERA and WHIP were finally where he wanted them to be, finally where they needed to be to make him a high-end Fantasy option. But then came the elbow trouble. Baker first went on the DL with a right elbow strain around the All-Star break. He went back on it in mid-August with continued discomfort in the elbow. By that point, the Twins were so far out of the race that they didn't want to take any chances with the 30-year-old right-hander. They brought him back for two relief appearances late in September, but for the most part, they wrote off the rest of 2011 as a lost cause and decided they'd try again with Baker in 2012. So should you? Hey, the potential for greatness is still there. But lingering elbow soreness is often a harbinger of Tommy John surgery, making Baker a definite risk. He can't hurt you with a late-round pick, but any earlier than that is probably a reach. (Updated 2/17/12)
