| Astros remove Philip Humber from roster |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/12/13) It just keeps getting worse and worse for pitcher Philip Humber. After being moved to the bullpen last week, Humber is not even on the roster anymore after the Astros designated him for assignment Sunday.
Humber was moved to the bullpen after losing his first seven starts and posting an 8.82 ERA. He tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in his relief debut Thursday, but Humber dropped to 0-8 Saturday after allowing five runs on five hits and one walk in 2/3 innings.

| Astros move Philip Humber to bullpen |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (5/8/13) Astros starting pitcher Philip Humber has been moved to the bullpen, the Houston Chronicle reports. Dallas Keuchel will instead make Friday's start against the Rangers.
Humber has had one of the worst starts to the season of any pitcher in the league, with an 0-7 record, 8.82 ERA and 1.93 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings over seven starts.

| Astros mull removing Philip Humber from rotation |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/6/13) The Astros have discussed removing starter Philip Humber from the rotation, MLB.com reports Monday. General manager Jeff Luhnow said he and manager Bo Porter have talked about that possibility, but nothing is imminent.
"That's really a decision Bo needs to make, and I'm sure he'll make it at the appropriate time," Luhnow said. "We believe Humber is a major league pitcher and can add value to our team. For now, no decision has been made about any different roles on the pitching side at this point."
Humber has lost each of his seven starts this season and has an 8.82 ERA and 1.93 WHIP.

| Philip Humber falls to 0-7 |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (5/5/13) Astros pitcher Philip Humber could not slow the Tigers' potent offense in Sunday's series finale. After Detroit scored 17 runs the night before, he allowed eight runs on eight hits with three walks over four innings of work in the 9-0 loss.
The right-hander surrendered a two-run homer to Prince Fielder in the first before getting tagged with a five-spot the following frame. Andy Dirks hit a solo homer off him in the fourth for his final damage.
Humber, who threw 91 pitches, struck out one while his record fell to 0-7 on the year.
His next start is scheduled for Saturday against the Rangers. When Humber faced Texas on April 3, he allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings in the loss.

| Philip Humber had a very erratic 2012. After throwing a perfect game in his second start of theseason, Humber went on an epic slide, finishing the year as a member of the bullpen, sporting a 6.44 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. He signed with Houston in the offseason, and his prospects don't look much better; yes, he has a rotation spot, but he needs to figure out what ailed him in 2012, which killed all momentum from a really solid 2011 (3.75 ERA, 1.18 WHIP). Humber is in deep AL-only territory, and owners taking a chance on him there still have to hope that Humber can return to 2011 levels. He shouldn't be drafted by teams that don't feel like crossing their fingers tightly every five days. (Updated 1/8/13) |
