Giants' Bochy won't move starters up after Peavy sent to DL
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(1:59 pm ET) Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that he will insert either Ryan Vogelsong or Yusmeiro Petit into the rotation against the Dodgers Thursday rather than alter his other starters' schedules after Jake Peavy was placed on the disabled list, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The Giants have an off-day Monday, and the team's regular rotation will receive extra rest rather than bump up in order to cover for Peavy's absence. That will leave Chris Heston and Tim Hudson to face the Rockies in Colorado Friday and Saturday, respectively.

|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(4/12/15) Giants pitcher Yusmeiro Petit gave up two earned runs during Sunday afternoon's 6-4 loss to the Padres.
Petit went 2 2/3 innings and allowed four hits and one strikeout. Petit gave up a two-run home run to Will Venable in the seventh inning. Petit's ERA is now at 4.15 through the first week of the season.
Giants' Jake Peavy to start Wednesday for Giants
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(3/1/15) Following Madison Bumgarner's exhibition start on Tuesday, the Giants will go with Jake Peavy to start Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Athletics, manager Bruce Bochy announced via MLB.com.
Ryan Vogelsong will pitch Thursday against the Cubs and Yusmeiro Petit will go Friday against the Rangers.
Bochy: Lincecum will be fifth starter; Vogelsong, Petit to bullpen
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(2/18/15) Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tim Lincecum will be the team's fifth starter. He added Ryan Vogelsong and Yusmeiro Petit will pitch out of the bullpen, but could make an occasional start to give a starting pitcher a break.
Lincecum went 12-9 with a 4.74 ERA in 33 appearances (26 starts) in 2014. He was 2-0 with a 5.73 ERA and one save in seven relief appearances.
Lincecum said he spent the offseason working with his father fine tuning his mechanics. He said he had about 50 throwing sessions with his father this winter.
“I feel more confidence in myself. I feel I deserve the reward you can find from doing the right kind of work," Lincecum said, per the San Francisco Chronicle.
Giants, Yusmeiro Petit avoid arbitrtion
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(1/16/15) The Giants have avoided arbitration with reliever Yusmeiro Petit, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman on Friday. Both sides have agreed to a $2.1 million for 2015.
Petit went 5-5 with a 3.69 ERA, a 1.02 WHIP and 133:22 K:BB ratio over 117 innings.
|2014 Summary: Yusmeiro Petit may be a soft-tosser, but a deceptive curveball baffled opponents and helped him to rack up 133 strikeouts in 117 innings. He was so dominant in the Giants' bullpen, he got a second chance to work in the rotation, even though he was blasted for a 5.81 ERA in five early-season starts. The second time around, Petit registered a 3.93 ERA over six starts, and six of the 16 total earned runs he allowed came in a single start at Coors Field.|
Playing time status: Petit has pitched well enough as a starter to deserve a permanent role in the rotation, but he's also been so valuable as a reliever that he could return to that role.
2015 Outlook: Watch how Petit's role develops closely over the offseason and in spring training, because as a starter, he has value for standard mixed league owners. Because of a high flyball rate, Petit will be a streaming option in those formats, but with AT&T Park as his home, he'll be worth starting more often than not. That will make the 30-year-old worth a late-round flier, especially in leagues where he can be used in a relief spot.
