Giants pitcher Yusmeiro Petit allows four runs in losing effort
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(5/24/15) Giants pitcher Yusmeiro Petit allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings of work in San Francisco's 5-3 loss to the Rockies on Saturday.
Petit didn't have any issues until the fourth, when he allowed three consecutive batters to reach base safely, including an RBI double by Brandon Barnes. Then, he forced a groundout by Daniel Descalso, but that also brought home a run.
In the sixth, Petit surrendered a two-run homer to Descalso. Petit, now 1-1, moved his ERA to 3.86 in 28 innings of work.

|(5/22/15) Giants pitcher Yusmeiro Petit will start the second game of a doubleheader Saturday against Colorado, unless he is needed out of the bullpen on Friday, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Petit made 12 starts last season. He owns a 3.27 ERA through his first 22 innings of relief this season.
Giants' Yusmeiro Petit earns first save of season Friday
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(5/9/15) Giants pitcher Yusmeiro Petit tossed the final three innings of Friday's 6-0 win over the Marlins to earn his first save of the season.
It was not a traditional save opportunity, but Petit did not allow a hit over the three innings while striking out two and walking one.
Giants to go with Ryan Vogelsong or Yusmeiro Petit Thursday
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(4/21/15) Giants manager Bruce Bochy remains on the fence about naming his starting pitcher for Thursday, according to CSN Bay Area.
Bochy wants to see how Tuesday and Wednesday play out before naming his starter, but is expected to choose either Ryan Vogelsong or Yusmeiro Petit for the job. Jake Peavy was the scheduled starter, but has since been placed on the 15-day DL with a back strain.
Vogelsong has made one start this season with a 10.45 ERA in three appearances. Petit has made five appearances this season with a 4.91 ERA in 7 1/3 innings.
Giants' Bochy won't move starters up after Peavy sent to DL
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(4/19/15) Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that he will insert either Ryan Vogelsong or Yusmeiro Petit into the rotation against the Dodgers Thursday rather than alter his other starters' schedules after Jake Peavy was placed on the disabled list, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
The Giants have an off-day Monday, and the team's regular rotation will receive extra rest rather than bump up in order to cover for Peavy's absence. That will leave Chris Heston and Tim Hudson to face the Rockies in Colorado Friday and Saturday, respectively.
|2014 Summary: Yusmeiro Petit may be a soft-tosser, but a deceptive curveball baffled opponents and helped him to rack up 133 strikeouts in 117 innings. He was so dominant in the Giants' bullpen, he got a second chance to work in the rotation, even though he was blasted for a 5.81 ERA in five early-season starts. The second time around, Petit registered a 3.93 ERA over six starts, and six of the 16 total earned runs he allowed came in a single start at Coors Field.|
Playing time status: Petit has pitched well enough as a starter to deserve a permanent role in the rotation, but he's also been so valuable as a reliever that he could return to that role.
2015 Outlook: Watch how Petit's role develops closely over the offseason and in spring training, because as a starter, he has value for standard mixed league owners. Because of a high flyball rate, Petit will be a streaming option in those formats, but with AT&T Park as his home, he'll be worth starting more often than not. That will make the 30-year-old worth a late-round flier, especially in leagues where he can be used in a relief spot.
