Preseason Outlook

You never want to declare a player an All-Star before he really does anything, but Escobar looks a lot like Jose Reyes did early in his career. He can already hit .300 (like Reyes), as he showed in a 125 at-bat stint late last year, and he's an accomplished base stealer (like Reyes) with the upside to hit 12-15 home runs (like Reyes). Because he enters his first full big-league season with the pedigree of a top prospect (like Reyes), the Brewers went ahead and cleared an everyday job for him by trading J.J. Hardy to the Twins. He's a free swinger at this stage of his career (like Reyes), but if he can eventually learn to take walks (like Reyes), he can become a fixture at the top of the lineup (like Reyes). He's only 22, so he might need a couple years to meet his full potential (like Reyes), but since he can already steal bases (like Reyes) and has the upside for more (like Reyes), he's a sleeper to target late if you miss out on the elite options early (like ... well, you get the idea).
