Pedroia set for minor surgery: According to the Providence Journal, Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia will have surgery Friday to remove a screw from his left foot, which was surgically repaired last offseason. Pedroia hit .307 with 21 homers and 26 stolen bases (both career-highs) in 2011. (Updated 09/29/2011)

Fantasy Analysis
Pedroia regained his elite standing in 2011 following an injury-shortened 2010, so clearly the screw wasn't a hindrance. He should be just fine without it as well. The former AL MVP is likely an early second-rounder in 2012 given his across-the-board performance this year. At age 28, he should still have plenty of good years left. (Updated 09/29/2011).

If there were concerns about Dustin Pedroia coming back from a broken bone in his foot prior to the 2011 season, he put those to rest with his best season in three years. Pedroia got back to what made him a .300-plus hitter earlier in his career, making fewer flyball outs, yet he did wind up with his first season with 20 or more home runs. With 26 stolen bases, Pedroia marked his first entry into the 20-20 club, and he finished with the highest Rotisserie value of any second baseman. While Ian Kinsler and Robinson Cano aren't far behind, Pedroia is arguably the most valuable second baseman in all formats going into this season, and he could be taken in many mixed leagues as soon as late in the first round.
