Dustin Pedroia's bat waking up
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(7/7/14) Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia scuffled from June 1-18, recording five extra-base hits while batting .222 with a .292 on-base percentage. Since then, however, he's hit .375 over his last 16 games.

That's the fifth-best average in the majors over that stretch, notes WEEI.com. Pedroia is 13 for 28 with three walks over his last seven games, with five RBI.

Dustin Pedroia getting pitches to hit, but not capitalizing
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(7/2/14) No hitter in the major leagues has seen a higher rate of strikes than Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, according to ESPN. Pitchers have become quite comfortable keeping pitches in the zone against Pedroia, who has failed to take advantage.

Pedroia's slugging percentage has dipped from 2011 to 2014 from .474 to .449 to. 415 to .383, which would be a career-low if maintained.

He has shown signs of life recently with three three-hit performances in the last four games. But he has just four home runs this season for the lowest-scoring team in the American League.

Dustin Pedroia claims he's hitting in bad luck
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(6/27/14) Slumping Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia admitted frustration, but also confidence that he's hitting only in bad luck and that his fortunes will soon change.

"I feel good up there (at the plate)," he told the Boston Herald. "It's just, some balls have been caught, the balls I've driven, I've either hooked them foul or hit them to the big part of the yard at whatever field we're at. But it's going to turn. I'm confident about it."

The 30-year-old Pedroia, who has seven years remaining in the $118 million contract extension he signed last July, does not believe a wrist ailment that required a cortisone injection in April has played a role in his struggles.

Pedroia has maintained a respectable batting average, but he has just one home run and five extra-base hits since June 7. His stat line of .265/.338/.377 represents a marked drop from that he achieved in any year since 2006.

Power stroke has disappeared for Dustin Pedroia
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com
(6/13/14) Second baseman Dustin Pedroia cannot be cited solely as the reason for the offensive struggles of the Red Sox this season. But he is certainly a chief contributor.

Pedroia, who has been hitless in five of his last seven games, is batting .267 with just three home runs. His tater-total drop to nine last year was considered by many a fluke, but his power numbers have further fallen in 2014.

The veteran has seen his slugging percentage plummet every year from 2010 (.493) to its current career-worst .374, per the Providence Journal, which is further reporting via BrooksBaseball.net that he has particularly struggled on strikes belt-high and up.

Pedroia owned a healthy .571 slugging percentage on such pitches from 2007 to 2012, but it has dropped to .322 since the start of the 2013 season.

Dustin Pedroia slugs rare homer in loss
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(6/7/14) Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia homered for the first time in nearly a month Saturday, in an 8-6 loss to the Tigers.

Pedroia got the scoring started for the Red Sox with a solo home run in the fourth inning, and also drove in one in the ninth on a sacrifice fly. He finished the game 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Pedroia is now hitting .278/.349/.392 on the season, with 20 RBI and 35 runs scored in 59 games.
