Preseason Outlook

Purcey won a rotation spot out of spring training last year, but after posting a 7.01 ERA in five April starts, he had to go back to the minors. The former first-rounder didn't fare much better there, his control problems leading to a 1.51 WHIP. He looked slightly better when he returned to the majors in September, but you have to wonder about his ability to succeed in the majors if he has yet to master control at age 27. He might just be a less-glorified version of Rich Hill. Purcey has some sleeper appeal in deeper AL-only leagues, but since he's a long shot for a rotation spot, he should go widely undrafted.
