Preseason Outlook

Only Albert Pujols, Joe Mauer and Prince Fielder topped Votto's .981 OPS last year, but somehow, you don't hear the 26-year-old mentioned as a preferred keeper or potential first-rounder. And on Draft Day, that's exactly the way you want it. Votto continues to fly under the radar in Fantasy because he missed nearly a month coping with a personal tragedy, an absence long enough to drop him to 19th at the crowded first base position in standard Head-to-Head scoring. But a quick look at his numbers tells you just what kind of potential he has over a full season. If you eliminate a poor month of August, he hit .353 for the year, hitting over .320 every other month. He hit equally well against lefties and righties, at home and on the road, during the day and at night -- and none of it comes as surprise after he hit .297 with 24 homers as a rookie. He's a superstar waiting to happen, and this year might be your last opportunity to draft him as anything less. (Updated 12/9/09)
