Braves RF Nick Markakis hits leadoff for first time on Saturday

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(4:43 pm ET) For the first time this season, right fielder Nick Markakis will bat leadoff for the Braves on Saturday in Philadelphia.

Markakis has hit leadoff in past seasons while with the Orioles.

Eric Young has hit leadoff the majority of the time for the Braves (10 out of 16 games) this season but has struggled (3 for his last 23).

Braves OF Eric Young hits two doubles in win

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(4/14/15) Braves outfielder Eric Young went 2 for 4 from the plate during Monday night's 3-2 win over the Marlins.

Both of Young's hits were doubles, though neither drove in any runs. He did score one run of his own thanks to a Nick Markakis RBI single. The performance gives Young three doubles for the season. His ERA now stands at .217 for the season.

Braves' Eric Young yet to hit stride in leadoff role

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/13/15) Braves outfielder Eric Young is just 3 for 19 with one stolen base in six games, making four starts in center field while serving as the team's leadoff hitter.

Young hasn't managed more than one hit in any game this year, leading to a .158/.200/.316 line over the first week of the season. He's back in the leadoff spot Monday against the Marlins but starting in left field for the first time this season.

Report: Eric Young has the edge over Melvin Upton for CF spot

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(3/27/15) Braves outfielder Eric Young Jr., a non-roster invitee, appears to have the advantage for the center field gig, after Melvin Upton Jr. went down with a foot injury, reports Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Young is hitting .321/.397/.464 with one home run, eight RBI and five stole bases in 56 at-bats this spring. Upton had the hard cast removed from his injured left foot last week, and is expected to start the season on the 15-day disabled list.

Braves' Eric Young emerges as favorite for center field

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/11/15) Braves outfielder Eric Young Jr. has emerged as the favorite to serve as the team's primary center fielder while Melvin Upton Jr. remains sidelined, MLB.com reports.

"If we had to break camp tomorrow, I'd be comfortable running him out there in center field," manager Fredi Gonzalez said Wednesday. "We've still got a lot more games to be played and a lot more work to be done."

Young has made multiple diving catches this spring while going 3 for 15 with four walks, one home run and three stolen bases.
