Preseason Outlook

It is hard to find a fault with Papelbon, unless you're a fickle Red Sox fan that remembers the end of the 2009 season in the ALDS against the Angels last October, allowing his first three runs in 27 career postseason innings. But Paps did show some warning signs during the regular season, seeing his walk total rise from eight in 2008 to 24 last year. He pitched just a bit more cautiously than he had at any point since his rookie season. Papelbon should bounce back and exude his extreme confidence and remain one of the elite closers in baseball and in Fantasy. It certainly helps that the Red Sox will get him a potentially healthy amount of save opportunities. We rank Papelbon as a top five Fantasy closer, even if he might no longer be No. 1. That honor we bestow on Jonathan Broxton after his first full season as a stopper. (Updated 1/20/10)
