The news is actually somewhat positive for Perkins. His throwing elbow and UCL have no damage at this time, and he's expected to be ready for Spring Training. Perkins finished the year with a 3.65 ERA over 61 2/3 innings.

Perkins has struggled down the stretch after a typically strong season in which he racked up 34 saves.
Glen Perkins to undergo MRI Thursday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(9/17/14) Twins closer Glen Perkins will undergo an MRI on his pitching arm Thursday, MLB.com reports.
The test will check his elbow and biceps area after the closer complained of soreness this week. Perkins has surrendered 10 earned runs in 7 1/3 innings over his last eight appearances.
Glen Perkins out, Jared Burton in as closer Wednesday
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(9/17/14) Twins closer Glen Perkins will at least be shut down Wednesday, if not for the year, with neck and shoulder injuries, per MLB.com. The results of an exam by doctors has yet to be revealed. Jared Burton will serve as the closer against Detroit on Wednesday and should remain in that role while Perkins is down.
|2014 summary: After finishing as a top 10 Fantasy closer in 2013, last season qualified as a disappointment for Glen Perkins. He locked down 34 saves as the Twins' closer, but he blew seven chances and put up a less-than-elite 3.65 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. With a 9.6 K/9 ratio, Perkins was still tough to make contact against, but that didn't stop batters from putting up a .429 slugging percentage against him -- his highest mark allowed since 2010. However, much of that damage occurred over Perkins' last eight appearances, before his season ended in mid-September with a diagnosis of a strain and nerve irritation in his forearm.|
Playing time status: A late-season MRI on Perkins' neck, shoulder and elbow did not reveal any structural damage, and he is expected to be ready for spring training.
2015 outlook: Health appears to have been a factor in Perkins' late-season demise, and if not for that slump, he would have turned in another very good season. Forearm troubles are a red flag for pitchers, so Perkins enters 2015 with more risk this season. With an offseason of rest, though, he could return to form and be a top 10 reliever. It's not too early to pick up Perkins in the middle rounds in standard mixed leagues.
