Astros manager A.J. Hinch getting closer to assigning bullpen roles
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(3/24/15) Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday is getting closer to announcing bullpen roles, according to the Houston Chronicle.
“Once we get through that (back-to-back appearance) cycle of the work, we'll address roles," he said.
Hinch was referring to three candidates -- Luke Gregerson, Pat Neshek and Chad Qualls -- who are up for the closer's role. Gregerson pitched on consecutive days Monday and Tuesday, Neshek is pitching Tuesday and Wednesday, and Qualls will also pitch on back-to-back days this week.

|(3/12/15) Astros relief pitcher Pat Neshek threw a 1-2-3 fourth inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced Thursday against the Tigers.
Neshek hadn't pitched since Sunday while dealing with a minor foot issue. Potentially in the mix to close this season, the reliever has tossed two scoreless innings while striking out three and walking one this spring.

|(3/11/15) Astros reliever Pat Neshek, who is sidelined with a sore right foot, is scheduled to pitch in Thursday's spring game against the Tigers, per MLB.com.
Neshek has made one appearance this spring, throwing one scoreless inning. He allowed two hits and one walk, while striking out one.
Astros' Pat Neshek won't miss time with foot injury

|(3/10/15) Astros reliever Pat Neshek won't be sidelined by the foot pain he's been feeling.
Neshek had an X-ray on Monday and MRI on Tuesday. Neither revealed any structural damage. The team will change his conditioning program, but his throwing schedule won't be changed.
"When I went in yesterday, I asked them and they said possibly it could [require] surgery and it freaked me out, but that's not the case," he told MLB.com's Brian McTaggart. "It's relatively minor and will take a few days to heal me up."
Astros pitcher Pat Neshek says foot issue is minor

|(3/10/15) Astros pitcher Pat Neshek had an MRI on his ailing right foot Tuesday and said the issue was minor, reports MLB.com. Neshek is expected be sidelined for a few days.
"They said I caught it at a great point where if you catch it now, it won't get worse," he said, per the Houston Chronicle.
2014 summary: With his arm troubles finally behind him, Pat Neshek had a season for the ages in 2014, ranking right there with Dellin Betances in terms of ERA and WHIP. He even got six saves spelling embattled closer Trevor Rosenthal from time to time.
Playing time status: Neshek could close and signed with the Astros, a team that desperately needs a closer. But Luke Gregerson, another offseason signing, figures to get the first crack at the role. Though Neshek's elbow was a problem earlier in his career, three straight healthy seasons more or less put those concerns to rest.
2015 outlook: Neshek is one of those rare relievers who matters in mixed Rotisserie leagues even if he doesn't get saves, which is good since he probably won't. He could be a Mark Melancon type waiting in the wings if Gregerson doesn't secure the role, though, so don't forget about him if he goes undrafted in your league.
