Latest News
If nothing else during his first full season as a starter, Span carved out a crystal clear niche for himself: He is a leadoff hitter. He gets on base, his .392 on-base percentage ranking 22nd among players with at least 400 at-bats, and steals bases -- maybe not 30 at a time, but enough to make him an asset in the category. And while he disappointed with his lack of homers and doubles after posting surprising power numbers as a rookie, he did lead the AL with 10 triples. He's kind of the AL version of Shane Victorino, minus the hype, which makes him plenty affordable on Draft Day. He improved over the course of the season, hitting .331 with an .845 OPS in the second half, and as he enters his prime, he might improve his power numbers as well. (Updated 1/18/10)
