|(10/15/14) Royals pitcher Jason Vargas earned a win in Wednesday's series-clinching victory, allowing one earned run on just two hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings while striking out six in his team's 2-1 win over the Orioles in Game 4 of the ALCS.

Royals going with Jason Vargas as Game 1 starter in ALDS
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(10/1/14) Royals starting pitcher Jason Vargas will start Game 1 of the ALDS against the Angels, according to The Kansas City Star. Vargas was 11-10 with a 3.71 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 30 starts during the regular season.
|2014 summary: For several years now, Jason Vargas has been a sneaky streaming play, as he has pitched for teams in pitcher-friendly parks that have masked his tendency to allow home runs at a high rate. Signing with the Royals looked to be a savvy move for Vargas, but it didn't work out as well as Fantasy owners might have hoped. The lefty actually allowed 12 of his 19 home runs at Kauffman Stadium and posted a 4.53 ERA there, but his season was saved by a 2.73 road ERA.
Playing time status: Though he missed time in 2014 due to an appendectomy and had surgery to remove a blood clot the year before, Vargas has been fairly reliable as an innings eater. It's fair to expect him to give the Royals roughly 200 innings in 2015.
2015 outlook: Perhaps Vargas came back too quickly from his appendectomy, as he did not have the same knack for inducing popups upon his return. and hitters whacked him around for a .280 batting average. With an offseason of rest, Vargas could return to form, and he just might have better luck containing the long ball in home starts. He's worth a gamble late during drafts in deeper mixed leagues and could once again be a worthwhile streaming option in standard mixed leagues.
