Preseason Outlook

In his first season as a closer, the bat-breaking Broxton rose to being the No. 1 Fantasy closer. It helps he gets all those save chances with the contending Dodgers, and he is a workhorse that throws a lot of innings for a closer and challenges to lead all relievers in strikeouts annually. When batters do make contact, it tends to make Louisville Slugger's stock price rise. He is one of the most unhittable pitchers in baseball and could only get better in his second full season as a closer. It is tough to be better than the best, but the fact Broxton doesn't have the year-to-year consistency of Jon Papelbon, Joe Nathan and Mariano Rivera might allow him to slip just a bit on Draft Day. He also has a bit of an injury question with his foot from the second half, but a 2.04 ERA and .183 batting-average against post-break are all you need to know. (Updated 1/20/10)
