Broxton might be trade candidate: CBSSports.com baseball insider Danny Knobler reports the Royals could have a tough decision regarding closer Jonathan Broxton this summer. He could be one of the more interesting relievers available leading up to the July 31 trade deadline or the Royals could opt to sign him to an extension. Broxton owns a 2.16 ERA and is 8 of 10 in save chances this year. (Updated 05/24/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Broxton ascended to the closer's role after Joakim Soria needed season-ending elbow surgery. Soria is expected back next season, but the team obviously can't predict how his recovery from major elbow surgery will go. If the team is confident in using other options within the organization, such as Greg Holland, then signing Broxton might be a better option than trading him. As of now, Broxton is the Royals' closer and a viable option for saves in deep mixed leagues. (Updated 05/24/2012).
05/24/2012 11:59 Royals face July decision on Broxton, who they could trade or sign
If the Royals are willing to field offers on Jonathan Broxton, the 27-year-old closer could be one of the more sought-after players on the July trade market. But club officials draw a comparison to Jeff Francoeur, and say that they like Broxton enough (and he likes them enough) that they may decide to sign him rather than trade him.

05/10/2012 20:56 Broxton is on the most added list
Royals relief pitcher Jonathan Broxton is one of the most added players in CBSSports.com leagues. The Fantasy Baseball 360 crew breaks it all down.
At this time two years ago, Jonathan Broxton was considered the best closer in Fantasy. One late-season meltdown and an elbow surgery later, he's not even a closer at all. Or at least he wasn't supposed to be, but with intended closer Joakim Soria needing Tommy John surgery, Broxton is suddenly in the mix for saves in Kansas City. He's hardly a sure bet to win the job, though. Greg Holland and Aaron Crow are also possibilities. Broxton's biggest drawback is that he hasn't pitched since May because of an elbow injury -- the latest in a variety of ailments over the last couple years that have caused his velocity to drop, slowing his fastball just enough to make it hittable. Plus, he hasn't been an effective closer since the first half 2010, posting a 6.63 ERA in 39 appearances. His track record is enough to make him an intriguing option on Draft Day, but because he has yet to secure the role or prove he can keep it, he's no more than a late-rounder in mixed leagues.
