Fantasy Analysis
It's been one injury after the other during Devine's career. He was once a promising prospect, but now is just trying to stay healthy to keep his MLB career going. Continue to leave him off Fantasy waivers. (Updated 05/15/2012).
03/19/2012 23:54 Spring primer: Oakland Athletics
No team seemed to be more active this offseason than the A's, who traded away the top of their rotation and their closer, but brought in talented young arms, as well as an entirely new outfield with Yoenis Cespedes, Josh Reddick and Seth Smith. The A's may not be any better in 2012 than they were in 2011, but they'll at least be different.
03/16/2012 22:20 Friday's injury roundup: Derek Jeter out until at least Tuesday
Last season Derek Jeter was sidelined by a right calf injury and on Friday he was scratched from the team's exhibition due to a left calf injury. The team's being cautious with his return. The Cardinals are also monitoring Skip Schumaker, who left Friday's game with a strained right oblique.
Joey Devine returned to the mound last season after missing the previous two campaigns while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He made his 2011 debut in late May and posted a 3.52 ERA over 26 appearances until a back injury in late July sidelined for the remainder of the season. He had to deal with another injury this spring -- a sore biceps -- that more or less removed him from contention for the closer role. Devine still has good enough stuff to factor in deeper Rotisserie leagues even if he's not recording saves, but he's so brittle that you have no reason to draft him in Fantasy, especially since he'll begin the year on the disabled list.
