Preseason Outlook

Volquez was overcome by a sore elbow that required Tommy John surgery last July. Reports said he hopes to pitch again by this June, but he can be considered nothing more than a second-half returnee at this point for Fantasy owners. Consider drafting him late in leagues where you can stash a number of players on DL spots. Volquez is young enough to return healthy and dominant by the end of the year -- which could make him an impact pick-up for Fantasy teams down the stretch. (Updated 1/12/10)
