| Shaun Marcum suffers another defeat |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/20/13) It was another start and another defeat for Mets pitcher Shaun Marcum Monday at home against the Reds. Marcum did just enough to fall to 0-5 on the year.
Marcum gave up four earned runs -- three in the first -- and the Mets lost 4-3. He was victimized twice by Jay Bruce, who hit a run-scoring double in the first and a home run in the sixth inning. In all, Marcum allowed four runs on six hits and a walk over six frames. He struck out seven and his ERA is now at 6.59.
The 31-year-old has at least gone six or more innings in his last two outings. He's shown improvement and will search for that elusive first win Sunday against Atlanta.

| Shaun Marcum remains winless |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (5/15/13) Mets starting pitcher Shaun Marcum was unable to pick up his first win of the season in Wednesday's start against the Cardinals despite turning in a quality start. Marcum surrendered three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out three in 6 2/3 innings.
It was the first time this season Marcum pitched at least five full innings. He takes an 0-4 record and 6.75 ERA into a home start against the Reds Monday.

| Shaun Marcum allows six runs, X-rays negative |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (5/10/13) Mets starting pitcher Shaun Marcum fell to 0-3 on the year by surrendering six earned runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings against the Pirates Friday, striking out two and walking none.
Marcum also took a line drive off his glove hand, but stayed in to pitch after being checked out by trainers. Manager Terry Collins said after the game that X-rays on Marcum's left thumb were negative, ESPNNewYork.com reports.
Marcum, who has an 8.59 ERA on the season, is scheduled to face the Cardinals in St. Louis Wednesday.

| Rainout forces Mets to alter rotation |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (5/4/13) The Mets' game at Atlanta scheduled for Saturday was postponed due to rain and a makeup date was not announced. Although the Braves decided to skip Saturday's starter Julio Teheran in the rotation, New York chose to push back its group.
The Mets will send Jonathon Niese -- Saturday's probable starter -- to the mound Sunday, and Matt Harvey was pushed to the series opener against the White Sox Tuesday. He is scheduled to be followed by Jeremy Hefner (Wednesday), Dillon Gee (Thursday against Pittsburgh) and Shaun Marcum (Friday).

| After making 64 starts over the previous two seasons, an elbow injury cost Shaun Marcum more than two months of the 2012 season. Marcum scuffled in the eight starts he made for the Brewers after coming off the disabled list in late August, tarnishing an otherwise solid season. Prior to his DL stint, Marcum did his usual good job of throwing strikes and avoiding hits on balls in play, leading up to a 5-3 record, 3.39 ERA and 1.17 WHIP through 13 outings. Marcum's poor finish helped to produce a 3.70 ERA and 1.27 WHIP, which were his highest marks since becoming a full-time starter in 2008. Between his elbow woes and mediocre season-end stats, expectations may be lowered for Marcum heading into 2013, but by and large, he has been consistently effective. He's bounced back from his 2008 Tommy John surgery and a poor finish in 2011, so owners shouldn't get too sour on Marcum's prospects for the coming season. With his move to the Mets, he gets a more pitcher-friendly home park in Citi Field. With that added bonus, Marcum is worth targeting in the middle-to-late rounds in standard mixed leagues.
