Preseason Outlook

Until last season, it was believed Capps was a standout reliever on a bad team. While he did set a career high with 27 saves in 2009, he became a suspect closer on a bad team -- a doubly bad combination for Fantasy owners. It led to him being non-tendered in the winter. Capps should be the Nationals' closer this season, but he is going to have to prove more healthy and consistent to be useful in mixed Fantasy leagues again. Consider him more of an NL-only closer option, especially since the rebuilding Nationals don't figure to provide him with a consistent number of save opportunities. (Updated 1/13/10)
