Fantasy Analysis
Johnson has converted 24 consecutive saves dating back to last season and that is the longest active streak in the major leagues. He's been nearly unhittable this season for the first-place Orioles and has yet to blow a single opportunity. Johnson should be active in all mixed Fantasy leagues. (Updated 05/22/2012).

The Orioles can't seem to settle on a role for Jim Johnson. After coming up as a starter in 2006, he served mostly as a setup man over the last few years before stepping in as closer late last year after Kevin Gregg flamed out in mid-August. So that's Johnson's role, then? Closer? Not so fast. The Orioles kicked around the idea of moving him back to the starting rotation this offseason before eventually opting against it, bringing in a collection of low-priced free-agent arms instead. So ... closer? Hang on a second. Gregg is still there. He's the one with all the closing experience. And though Johnson recorded seven saves in September, Gregg recorded the final two for the month. Apparently, manager Buck Showalter isn't entirely ready to dismiss Gregg as a viable option for saves. Johnson may enter spring training as the favorite to close in Baltimore, but he isn't guaranteed anything. Plus, he's pitching for a last-place team and he doesn't profile as a particularly good closer anyway. When pursuing saves on Draft Day, Johnson should probably be your last resort. (Updated 2/21/12)
