(5/19/13) Cardinals reliever Edward Mujica recorded his 13th save Sunday against Milwaukee.
Mujica sent the Brewers down in order in the ninth to finish off the win. Mujica's excellent control continues to power him -- he has allowed just one walk in 19 innings, one of the main drivers behind his 1.42 ERA.

(5/18/13) Cardinals closer Edward Mujica turned in a solid performance as he pitched another scoreless ninth to notch his 12th save of the season Friday night against the Brewers.
Mujica struck out one and needed just 13 pitches to secure a 7-6 win. He has struck out three and has not allowed a run in his last five innings of work.

Mujica lowered his ERA to 1.69 while collecting his 11th save.

Mujica also struck out one in a 6-3 win.

(5/8/13) Cardinals closer Edward Mujica entered Wednesday's series finale against the Cubs in the ninth inning with a one-run lead. The right-hander needed just nine pitches to retire the side in order and secure the 5-4 win.
Mujica also struck out one while converting his ninth save.

| Though Edward Mujica doesn't have much of a reputation in Fantasy, his 3.20 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over the last three seasons suggest he's one of the more reliable middle relievers in the NL. He was especially impressive after coming over from the Marlins in a midseason trade last year, posting a 1.03 ERA in 29 appearances for the Cardinals. He doesn't have strikeout-per-inning potential and probably wouldn't be next in line for saves if something happened to Jason Motte. But if you're looking for a cheap option to help keep your ERA and WHIP down in a deeper Rotisserie league, Mujica is a name to consider. (Updated 1/8/13) |
