Matt Albers begins mound work
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(8/5/14) Astros reliever Matt Albers tossed 15 fastballs during a bullpen session Saturday, as he continues to work his way back from a right shoulder injury.
Albers, who has been out since April 22 due to tendinitis, reported no setbacks in talking to the Houston Chronicle about the session Monday. He has been beset by setbacks during his recovery from this particular injury.
"The last couple times, I've kind of got off the mound, I kind of had a setback, so I feel like I've progressed where I can get off a mound," he said. "It's been a little bit. It felt good, came out good. (Sunday brought) no issues. I feel pretty normal."
Albers has no timetable for a possible return, but hopes to be back by the end of August, in a best-case scenario.
"My main goal is just to be able to get back healthy," Albers said. "I think if I can come back - even if it's a month, a little over a month of pitching - if I'm back to where I am, that's really important to go into the offseason knowing I'm over this injury and I can get back and have a normal offseason."
Matt Albers to resume throwing Friday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(7/30/14) Astros pitcher Matt Albers is scheduled to throw off a mound Friday, MLB.com reports. He has been on the disabled list since April 22 with shoulder tendinitis.
"I've been feeling pretty good," Albers said. "I think I felt pretty good a couple of times and then when I got off the mound, I had a setback. Hopefully, this time we're making sure I stretch it out and get some extra throwing in before I get back off the mound, but it's feeling pretty good right now."
Albers added that he expects to throw at 70-75 percent intensity Friday in order not to push himself too hard as he attempts to return from a lengthy injury.
