Albers shows up in better shape: Red Sox pitcher Matt Albers told the Boston Herald on Sunday that he is in better shape entering spring training after wearing down a bit towards the end of the 2011 campaign. The right-hander went 4-4 with a 4.73 ERA in 56 appearances last season, but surrendered 29 hits over his final 21 2/3 innings. “I am in better shape than I was last year,” Albers said. “I wanted to come in and be ready to go and be able to do my job for the entire season. My diet was a little better and I did more cardio — the stuff that anybody would do to lose weight. Eat better, work out more. But I’ve always been a big guy. Fantasy Analysis
Albers was a valuable piece of the bullpen for the Red Sox last season and could be in for an even better campaign in 2012. Along with getting in better shape, he has been working on a two-seam fast ball and also a changeup. While his strikeouts give him some value in Fantasy, his role in Boston limits his appeal so leave Albers for AL-only formats that utilize middle men on Draft Day. (Updated 02/27/2012).
