|Carlos Marmol leaves Wednesday's game due to injury |
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
(4/23/14) Marlins reliever Carlos Marmol had to leave his outing in the seventh inning Wednesday against the Braves because of a right hamstring strain. He is listed as day to day.
Marmol faced three batters before having to leave the game. He got Gerald Laird to ground out and Justin Upton to strike out before issuing a two-out walk to Jason Heyward. After the Heyward walk, Marmol was lifted from the game and replaced by Mike Dunn, who got Andrelton Simmons to strike out to end the inning.

(4/10/14) Marlins reliever Carlos Marmol capped off a team-wide meltdown Wednesday, earning the loss in a 10-7 defeat to the Nationals.
Marmol allowed four runs in one inning of work, all of which came off the bat of Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth. Werth's grand slam proved to be the game-winning hit, as Marmol took to loss after allowing four runs on two hits and a walk.
Marmol had opened the season with four scoreless outing, but now has a 7.2 ERA with five hits and two walks in five innings of work.

(3/9/14) Marlins pitcher Carlos Marmol is set to debut Sunday, according to the Miami Herald.
Marmol's first outing was delayed after he had to travel to the Dominican Republic to sort out some visa issues. Marmol posted a 4.41 ERA in 49 innings split between the Cubs and Dodgers last year.

(2/17/14) Marlins reliever Carlos Marmol said his past command issues have been more mechanical than mental, according to The Miami Herald.
"It was a lot of things, the mechanics and my stuff," Marmol said. "What can you say? Bad year. When you have a bad year, things happen. For any pitcher, when you don't do your job, it makes it frustrating for everybody.
"But that's in the past. I don't even think about it anymore. I'm positive. I'm here with a new team and will try the best I can."
"It was simple," Marmol said of his mechanical issues, which he feels have been corrected. "I wouldn't say it was my confidence."

(2/6/14) The Marlins have reached a one-year agreement with free agent reliever Carlos Marmol for $1.25 million, ESPN has reported. Marmol has struggled since losing his closer job with the Cubs in 2012.
Marmol bottomed out last season with two saves and a 4.41 ERA, his highest as a major league reliever, and 40 walks in 49 innings.
|Despite continued control problems, Carlos Marmol began the 2013 season as the Cubs' closer. Unfortunately, he wouldn't hold the role for long and didn't even finish last season with Chicago. After a few shaky months in the Windy City, Marmol was designated for assignment and eventually traded to the Dodgers. Los Angeles stuck Marmol in the minors before bringing him back to the majors in late July. He posted a 2.53 ERA in 21 relief appearances for Chicago, but he still suffered from control problems, walking 19 batters in 21 1/3 innings. Marmol is a hard thrower and great strikeout pitcher, but until he gets his wildness under control, he likely won't serve in a closer any time soon. Marmol should go undrafted in most Fantasy formats.
