Fantasy Analysis
Cincinnati still has an opening at closer, but because Marshall throws left-handed, the Reds wouldn't want to restrict him to the ninth inning if they don't have to. Marshall has emerged as one of the better middle relievers in the game in recent years, posting career lows in ERA (2.26) and WHIP (1.10) last year, but he has minimal appeal in standard mixed leagues if he's not in the running for saves. Sean Marshall continued to prove himself as a solid reliever for the Cubs last season and had one of the better campaigns of his career. He posted personal bests in ERA (2.26), gopher balls (one) and walks (17) and even challenged Carlos Marmol for save chances at one point. He would go 5 for 9 in those opportunities and also won six games while making 78 appearances. The left-hander was traded to the Reds in the offseason and is expected to setup for closer Ryan Madson. After beginning his career as a starter, Marshall has made a solid transition to the bullpen with a 2.45 ERA over the last two seasons. He can be counted on for over a strikeout per inning and should see a few save chances in Cincinnati. But since his role limits his value in Fantasy, target Marshall in NL-only formats and some deeper mixed leagues on Draft Day. The 29-year-old is also worth a look in Rotisserie formats.
