Cubs C Miguel Montero drives home three runs in loss

(12:04 am ET) Cubs catcher Miguel Montero totaled three RBI in Monday evening's 10-9 loss against the Cardinals. 

Montero hit a two-run single in the first inning and followed that with an RBI double in the fourth. Montero has now recorded a hit in six consecutive games and has recorded multiple hits in four of those. 

Montero finished the day 2 for 4, scored a run and also drew a walk. 

He now holds a slash line of .298/.373/.491.

(5/4/15) Cubs catcher Miguel Montero appears to be getting on track offensively after a sluggish start to the season. Montero enters play Monday against the Cardinals with a five-game hitting streak. He hit safely just five times in his first 14 games.

Montero is batting .474 (9 for 19) with one home run, three RBI, three runs, one walk and four strikeouts during his hitting streak. His batting average has risen from .176 to .283 in that span.

Right-hander Carlos Martinez will be on the mound Monday for St. Louis. Montero is batting .283 with one double, three home runs and 10 RBI in 18 games against right-handed starters in 2015.

(4/26/15) Cubs catcher Miguel Montero went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI in his team's 5-2 win over the Reds Sunday.

Montero kicked off the day's scoring with a solo home run in the second inning, then pushed his team's lead to 2-0 with an RBI single in the fourth. He scored a run later in the inning on a three-run double by rookie Addison Russell.

Montero has endured spotty playing time with the Cubs carrying three catchers, but he's managed to deliver a .211/.304/.474 line with three home runs and nine RBI in 38 at-bats.

(4/25/15) Cubs catcher Miguel Montero returned to the starting lineup on Saturday at Cincinnati, after David Ross handled catching duties Friday night with Jon Lester on the mound, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Montero is hitting .176 with two homers and seven RBI over 42 at-bats this season. He is 0 for 2 with a walk in his career against Reds starter Anthony DeSclafani.

(4/24/15) Cubs third-string catcher David Ross got a rare start in Friday's game at Cincinnati. Ross was listed seventh in the order, getting just his fourth start of the season, matching the total of Welington Castillo. Miguel Montero has eight starts behind the plate.
