| Is it about to be 'Miggy Time' for struggling catcher? |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/19/13) Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero continues to search for different methods to break out of his season-long slump, according to MLB.com. On Saturday, Montero tried positive self-talk and was telling everyone it was about to be "Miggy Time."
Unfortunately, Montero had just a single in Saturday's game against the Marlins and is batting .184 on the season.
"He's been battling," manager Kirk Gibson said. "We're going to get him going, he's going to get it going. You start to analyze things, you pretty much cover it A to Z and it gets tough. You have to go up there and not be over-thinking the situation. If you do, it makes it tough, you analyze things you don't need to analyze."

| Miguel Montero back in the fifth-hole |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (5/12/13) Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero didn't last long at the No. 8 spot in the batting order despite clubbing the game-winning home run Friday night. The 29-year-old moved back to the fifth-hole Saturday night against the Phillies.
Montero singled in the seventh for his only hit of the night. He struck out twice and finished 1 for 4 in a 3-1 defeat.
Montero has struggled as of late despite Friday's game-winning home run. He is hitting .214 (6 for 28) in May. He has lifted his batting average from .194 to .203 in his last seven games.

| Miguel Montero bumped to No. 8 spot |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (5/10/13) Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero was moved down to the No. 8 spot in the batting order prior to Friday's contest against the Phillies.
Montero is hitting .198 and .164 at the No. 4 spot, which is where manager Kirk Gibson has normally placed him this season. The 29-year-old is a career .347 hitter at the No. 8 spot. He has eight homers and 35 RBI in 94 games at that spot.

| Miguel Montero at start of prolonged hot streak? |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/7/13) Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero produced multiple hits for the second time in three games Monday against the Dodgers. It comes after Montero hadn't produced a multi-hit game over 21 appearances from April 8-May 1.
Montero is batting .364 (4 for 11) in his last three games, raising his season average from .194 to .212.

| Miguel Montero risky this week |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/3/13) Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero has gotten off to a horrendous start to the season, batting just .194 with one home run through the first 27 games, and things might not get any easier in Week 6 (May 6-12).
Scott White warns Fantasy owners to consider Montero a risky start for the week, in his Hit Parade column for the scoring period.
Given a track record that includes consecutive 15-plus homer seasons with .280-plus batting averages, Montero is a pretty good bet to get going before long. Unfortunately, a week that features four left-handed pitchers on the schedule is not a friend to Montero, who hits just .251 with a .701 on-base plus slugging percentage against lefties in his career.
The fact that Clayton Kershaw, Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee are three of the four southpaws on the schedule just serves to drive home the point. Montero will be worth starting down the road, but Week 6 is an opportunity to look to other options.

| Miguel Montero has hit 33 home runs over his last two seasons. And he's one of the rare catchers who can flirt with 20 home runs while keeping a nice batting average (.284 over the last two years). While Montero had a nice season overall in 2012, there were a couple disturbing trends. For the first time in his career, Montero had more than 100 strikeouts. And he didn't just eke across the century mark -- he had 130 whiffs. He also lost 11 doubles from his 2011 total (from 36 to 25). But his OPS went up as he almost doubled his walks and he played in 141 games. Montero isn't a flashy 30-home run hitter, but he spreads enough goodness around to be a top Fantasy contributor at catcher. He should be taken as a No. 1 catcher, probably in the middle to late rounds. (Updated 12/4/12) |
