Cubs acquire catcher Miguel Montero from D-Backs

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(12/9/14) The Cubs and Diamondbacks have agreed to a trade that will send catcher Miguel Montero to Chicago in exchange for two lower-level pitching prospects Jefferson Mejia and Zach Godley, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports.

USA Today MLB columnist Bob Nightengale first reported the deal. Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM also confirmed the report.

Montero has three years left on a six-year, $65.9 million contract. He is owed $12 million in 2015 and $14 million the following two seasons. He hit .243 with 13 homers and 72 RBI last season.

Report: Cubs on verge of acquiring D-Backs catcher Miguel Montero

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(12/9/14) The Cubs are on the verge of acquiring Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero, according to USA Today MLB columnist Bob Nightengale. The Diamondbacks are expected to receive prospects in return and the deal is expected to be announced Tuesday.

CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports the Diamondbacks would receive lower-level pitching prospects in the deal.

Montero has three years left on a six-year, $65.9 million contract. He is owed $12 million in 2015 and $14 million the following two seasons.

Report: Cubs, Diamondbacks talking about Miguel Montero deal

by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com
(12/8/14) The Cubs are working on a deal to acquire Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero, reports Fox Sports. Montero, who's owed $40 million over the next three years, batted .243 with 13 homers and 72 RBI last season.

The report did not specify what the Cubs would give up.

Report: Ethier deal between Dodgers, Diamondbacks falls through

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(12/6/14) A trade that would have sent Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier to the Diamondbacks fell through when Arizona's ownership declined to give final approval on the deal, FOXSports.com reports.

The proposed trade involved Ethier and catcher Tim Federowicz heading to the Diamondbacks in exchange for catcher Miguel Montero and lower-level prospects. The Dodgers were also reportedly ready to kick in cash in the deal to help offset Ethier's contract. They'll instead continue to shop around for the right deal to help clear a logjam in the outfield.

Diamondbacks GM has fielded trade offers for Miguel Montero

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(11/5/14) It appears the Diamondbacks are not opposed to trading catcher Miguel Montero, according to The Arizona Republic.

"They've definitely put him out there," a source with a rival club said.

New Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart didn't deny listening to offers when asked about the subject over the weekend. FOX Sports was first to report Montero as being a potential trade candidate.

"With Montero, like any of our players, people have called and asked about him," Stewart said Sunday. "My job organizationally is to listen to what teams are talking about in regard to our players. If there is a deal that makes us better, then we have to, as a team, listen to it and see how it makes us better and if it makes us better."

It seems the Diamondbacks are looking to acquire a starting pitcher in a trade involving Montero.

"Any move that we make has to better our rotation," he said. "But what has to be understood is that everybody is looking for pitching and nobody wants to give it up."
