|Brendan Ryan dealing with mild tightness in hamstring |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(4/19/14) Yankees infielder Brendan Ryan (oblique) was unable to play in an extended spring training game on Saturday because of mild tightness in his hamstring, The Journal News reports. However he did take six simulated at-bats without running despite the minor setback.
"His hamstring was a little tight I think, but that's probably normal," manager Joe Girardi said. "I think all guys probably go through it in spring training. We thought we'd be cautious and say, just take your at-bats and don’t run."
|Brendan Ryan hoping to return by end of next week |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(4/18/14) Yankees middle infielder Brendan Ryan saw live pitching Friday for the first time since sustaining a back injury in March and believes he can return sooner than expectations. His anticipated return had been early May.
"I'd say later on next week could be probably the earliest and somewhere between there and the following week could be probably realistic," he told the Newark Star-Ledger.
The 32-year-old Ryan added that the team has suggested they would like him to get 35 at-bats in a minor league rehab stint before coming off the disabled list. He only received nine plate appearances in exhibition play, so he will require more before returning to a big league batter's box.
|Brendan Ryan will play simulated game Saturday |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(4/17/14) Yankees infielder Brendan Ryan is scheduled to play in a simulated game Saturday in Tampa and remains on track to rejoin the team at some point in May, the Star-Ledger reports Thursday.
"He's got to go through a normal spring training," manager Joe Girardi said. "That will obviously be (sped) up because we could get him more at-bats in certain situations, but we'd like to see him get 40, 50 at-bats."
|Brendan Ryan making progress |

(4/10/14) Yankees infielder Brendan Ryan has been cleared to partake in some light on-field activity in recent days, as MLB.com reported Thursday. Ryan, who is recovering from nerve damage in his spine, has begun light baseball activities while working out at the team's spring training facility in Florida.
|Brendan Ryan unable to resume baseball activities |
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(4/6/14) Yankees infielder Brendan Ryan has not resumed baseball activities yet, according to nj.com.
Ryan has been dealing with an upper back injury. He was placed on the disabled list at the start of the season, and was expected to be on it longer than the usual 15 days.
|In a quiet, post-deadline September deal, Brendan Ryan was traded to the Yankees to provide middle infield depth. In 17 games, Ryan hit .220, with one home run and seven runs scored. It was the best he's hit since 2011, and had he kept up the home run pace over a full season, he would have set a career high. Ryan is an excellent defender, but his bat isn't going to help many Fantasy players. Deep single-league owners may want to consider him to fill a middle infield spot, but Ryan can be left undrafted in most formats.
