Fantasy Analysis
Pennington has been able to raise his average from .211 to .224 during his recent stretch but continues to underwhelm as an offensive option. While the 27-year-old has some decent speed, his lack of pop and inconsistent average makes him someone to avoid in most Fantasy leagues. Leave Pennington for AL-only formats at this point. 05/13/2012 20:18 Hit Parade for Week 7
As interleague play gets under way there are many matchups to break down. Our Scott White tells you who the best bets and biggest risks are in his Hit Parade for Week 7.
Cliff Pennington continued to progress as a hitter last season and posted some of his best numbers while playing in 148 games for the A's. He set career highs with eight home runs and 58 RBI, and his .264 average was slightly above his career mark. While he struck out 104 times in 515 at-bats and walked just 42 times, he also swiped 14 bases. He missed a couple of games toward the end of the season and was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy, which should not affect him too much going forward. The 27-year-old lacks the offensive upside owners would like to see from a Fantasy shortstop, but since he will play every day in Oakland and puts up decent stats, consider Pennington a worthwhile option in AL-only formats and deep mixed leagues.
