Preseason Outlook

After being a third-year starting pitcher breakout in 2008, Billingsley took a step back last season -- mostly at the end of the year, when the Dodgers didn't even trust him in their postseason rotation. Billingsley was his impressive self in the first half, going 9-4 with a 3.38 ERA and a .227 batting-average against. It fell apart for the potential ace right-hander after the break to the tune of (3-7)-5.20-.271. We believe he is far closer to his pre-break self and can be considered among the top 30 Fantasy starting pitchers on Draft Day. The fact the Dodgers are a top contender with a potent offense certainly helps. Billingsley has the potential to win the NL Cy Young award if he can put a full season together. (Updated 1/7/10)
