As the report notes, Saltalamacchia's season is over, but he impressed the coaching staff with the strides he made defensively in his first season as a regular major-league catcher Manager Ron Washington said every aspect of Saltalamacchia's game behind the plate improved, and he will go into spring training as the No. 1 catcher assuming Ivan Rodriguez isn't re-signed in the off-season.
