If you look at Hughes' career numbers to date, it looks like what you might expect him to produce in a full season as a starter: 192 2/3 innings, 13-10 with a 4.21 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. That would make him a top 40 Fantasy starter to target on Draft Day, especially when you consider his potential and outstanding support system in New York. As it is, uncertainty about his role -- or how many innings he would be stretched to even if he does make the rotation out of spring training -- make him more of a sleeper than a potential breakout. If Hughes is named a Yankee starter before your draft, expect hype to elevate his value to the top 40 starting pitchers, particularly in leagues where he can be dual eligible as a reliever. If he is named a setup man for the year -- the Yankees likely want to keep him in one role the entire way -- consider him merely a late-round flier. (Updated 1/7/10)
