Fantasy Analysis
Despite losing his final two starts of the season, Wells really showed Fantasy owners a lot to like in the second half as he went 6-3 with a 3.90 ERA over his final 13 outings with two complete games. The 29-year-old missed a lot of time in 2011 due to injury but will definitely be in the conversation for a rotation spot next season and could do some damage as long as he stays healthy. He could become a viable option in mixed leagues if he continues to progress but consider Wells as more of a low-end Fantasy SP on Draft Day. (Updated 01/17/2012).

09/11/2011 09:39 Week 24 Fantasy Pitching Planner
With only 36 pitchers starting two games in Week 24, owners are going to have to make some tough calls when filling out their rotations. Al Melchior's Pitching Planner sheds some light on who might make a difference.
Randy Wells missed much of the first half of the 2011 campaign due to forearm strain but his performance down the stretch could have earned him a spot in the rotation heading into this season. In his 14 starts after the All-Star break, the right-hander went 6-3 with a 4.04 ERA, including two complete games and a shutout. He finished the year 7-6 with a 4.99 ERA over 23 outings. With all of the changes the Cubs have made in the offseason, the 29-year-old will compete for one of the final spots in the rotation during spring training so keep an eye on his progress. Wells jumped on the Fantasy map by winning 12 games with a 3.05 ERA in 2009 and if he can post numbers anywhere close to that this season, he will be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues. Target him more in NL-only formats on Draft Day. (Updated 2/2/12)
