|(7/30/14) Twins pitcher Mike Pelfrey began a throwing program Wednesday, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Pelfrey underwent surgery on his elbow in June to alleviate the pressure on his ulnar nerve. He said earlier in July that the numbness was finally gone from his hand, and it appears he's ready to start working his way back toward a return. Pelfrey hasn't pitched for the Twins since May 1.
Numbness gone, but Mike Pelfrey still could miss season

|(7/4/14) Twins pitcher Mike Pelfrey is no longer dealing with numbness in his hand, but he still faces an uphill battle if he hopes to return to action this season.
Pelfrey underwent surgery to relieve pressure on the ulnar nerve in his right elbow, and the fact numbness is no longer an issue means it was a success. However, general manager Terry Ryan told the Star Tribune he "wouldn't be surprised" if Pelfrey is unable to pitch again this season.

Mike Pelfrey undergoes elbow surgery, out 2-4 months

|(6/10/14) Twins pitcher Mike Pelfrey underwent surgery on his right elbow Tuesday to alleviate the pressure on his ulnar nerve, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
It's not Tommy John surgery, shortening Pelfrey's expected recovery time to two-to-four months. Sidelined since May 1, he owns a 7.99 ERA and 10:18 K:BB ratio in 23 2/3 innings.
|Mike Pelfrey's return from Tommy John surgery was less than auspicious, as his first season with the Twins resulted in a 5-13 record with a 5.19 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. However, as the season wore on, Pelfrey was throwing harder and getting strikeouts at unprecedented rates. Then again, everything is relative, as Pelfrey's career K/9 ratio is a mere 5.2, but from May 26 forward, he struck out 6.6 batters per nine innings. He still struggled with command, as he has done for much of his career, so Pelfrey's modest improvements in his K-rate were hardly enough to offset a high ERA and WHIP. The former first-round pick may be healthier and more effective in 2014, but a lack of apparent upside should keep Pelfrey's name from being called outside of AL-only leagues on Draft Day.
