| Casey Janssen blows first save |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/8/13) Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen blew a save Saturday against the Rangers. Janssen gave up two runs in the top of the ninth with a 3-1 lead as he blew his first save of the season.
The closer allowed two hits and a walk and Elvis Andrus' sacrifice fly to center tied the score and ruined a win for starter Mark Buehrle. Janssen threw 24 pitches in the inning and his ERA is at 2.75 on the year.
This was the first runs Janssen allowed since giving up three in a two-game span back on May 20 and 22 against the Rays. He has 12 saves for Toronto.

| Casey Janssen gets two outs for 12th save |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/5/13) Toronto closer Casey Janssen earned his 12th save for the Blue Jays Wednesday in San Francisco. Janssen got the final two outs after starter R.A. Dickey got the first in the ninth.
Janssen needed just four pitches to close out the 4-0 win after Dickey put a runner on base. His ERA is at 1.93.
Janssen is a perfect 12 for 12 in save situations this season and has five saves and a win over his last 10 appearances.

| Casey Janssen continued to be a reliable reliever for the Blue Jays last season and became a valuable option in Fantasy when he was moved to the ninth-inning role in May. He recorded his first save on May 9 and would convert 22 of 24 save chances after that, while posting a 2.03 ERA over his final 52 appearances. The right-hander ended up striking out 67 in 63 2/3 innings pitched for the campaign and walked a career-low 11 batters. Janssen underwent shoulder surgery in November and is expected to be ready for spring training. His role could change in 2013, though. The Blue Jays plan on giving Sergio Santos a look as the closer again, so it's possible the 31-year-old Janssen could be headed back to a middle-relief role. Keep an eye on the situation during camp as Janssen's value in Fantasy depends on whether or not he will see save chances in Toronto. As the closer, Janssen would be worth targeting in most Fantasy leagues. If he loses the closer role, you should plan on leaving him for the deepest of AL-only formats. (Updated 1/4/13) |
