|Casey Janssen blows it Tuesday |
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(8/27/14) Blue Jays reliever Casey Janssen picked up a loss Tuesday against the Red Sox.
Janssen entered with the game tied, and managed to get through the 10th inning without any issue. Things became problematic in the 11th. Janssen gave up a single to start the inning, and then allowed allowed two runners to reach on sacrifice bunt attempts. Janssen made an error on the second bunt attempt, loading the bases. After giving up a two-run single, Janssen was pulled.
Things didn't fare much better once Janssen left. Mike Napoli blasted a three-run homer, scoring two of the runs Janssen put on base. Janssen allowed four runs, three earned, in one inning. He gave up two hits and notched two strikeouts. Janssen fell to 3-2.

(8/23/14) Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen didn't do Saturday what his job description mandatges - close. He blew a 4-3 lead to the Rays by allowing a run-scoring single to James Loney in the ninth inning.
The dud ended a run of four straight scoreless appearances for Janssen.

|Casey Janssen blows save, takes loss Friday |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(8/8/14) Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen came up short Friday, giving up three earned runs on four innings to take a blown save and a loss in his team's 5-4 defeat against the Tigers.
Janssen (3-1) gave up a two-run home run to tie the game and then a decisive home run to the next batter he faced. He had allowed just three home runs all season coming into Friday's game. Janssen owns a 3.56 ERA and 17:3 K:BB ratio in 30 1/3 innings.
|Casey Janssen closes out Astros |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(8/1/14) Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen worked his way past a walk and needed only 13 pitches to complete a scoreless ninth inning for the save Thursday night against the Astros in Houston. He has converted 18 of 20 save attempts, with a 2.86 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP over 28 1/3 innings of relief.
|Casey Janssen set a career high in saves last season, successfully closing out 34 games (surpassing his previous high of 22). It was Janssen's second straight season with a sub-2.60 ERA and sub-1.00 WHIP, while keeping his K/9 at 8.5 or higher for the third consecutive year. This all occurred with Janssen dealing with a shoulder that he openly admitted didn't feel quite right following offseason surgery, on a team that was a major disappointment from the start. The 32-year-old will likely resume the closer role again in 2014, and considering he put up these near-career-best numbers with a balky shoulder for a good amount of the season, Janssen is in line to improve on his 2013 stat line. He should be one of the first dozen closers off the board.
