|Casey Janssen blows it Friday |

(9/5/14) Blue Jays reliever Casey Janssen blew a save Friday against the Red Sox.
Janssen entered with a two-run lead, and couldn't hold it. He gave up four straight singles to open the frame, cutting the lead to just one run. A sac fly against the next batter tied the game 8-8. After a throwing error loaded the bases, Janssen gave up a walkoff single to Yoenis Cespedes to end the game.
Janssen lasted just 1/3 of an inning. He allowed three runs on five hits. Janssen dropped to 3-3 with the loss. It was his fifth blown save this season.

(9/5/14) Blue Jays closer Casey Janssen worked his way around a walk and needed only 13 pitches to complete a scoreless frame for the save Thursday night against the Rays. He has converted 21 of 25 save chances, with a 3.72 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP over 38 2/3 innings of relief.
|Casey Janssen set a career high in saves last season, successfully closing out 34 games (surpassing his previous high of 22). It was Janssen's second straight season with a sub-2.60 ERA and sub-1.00 WHIP, while keeping his K/9 at 8.5 or higher for the third consecutive year. This all occurred with Janssen dealing with a shoulder that he openly admitted didn't feel quite right following offseason surgery, on a team that was a major disappointment from the start. The 32-year-old will likely resume the closer role again in 2014, and considering he put up these near-career-best numbers with a balky shoulder for a good amount of the season, Janssen is in line to improve on his 2013 stat line. He should be one of the first dozen closers off the board.
