Salvador Perez, Alex Gordon out of Royals' Sunday lineup
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(4/19/15) Royals catcher Salvador Perez and left fielder Alex Gordon are both out of the team's starting lineup for Sunday.
Both players are being rested. Erik Kratz will catch, in just his second game appearance of the year. Kratz is batting seventh in the lineup.
Jarrod Dyson will play left and bat ninth.
Royals' Lorenzo Cain, Salvador Perez might get day off this week
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(4/13/15) Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain might get a day off Wednesday against the Twins, with Jarrod Dyson replacing him in the starting lineup, manager Ned Yost said Monday.
Yost also indicated Erik Kratz might also get a start in place of catcher Salvador Perez on Thursday.
Cain and Perez have started all seven games, including Monday at Minnesota.
Royals' Yost going away from built-in days off for Salvador Perez
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(3/12/15) Royals manager Ned Yost was considering having Erik Kratz as a personal catcher for one of the pitchers in the team's rotation as a way of having built-in days off for starting catcher Salvador Perez. However, Yost is no longer going to use that plan.
"Just not going to happen," Yost said Wednesday, per MLB.com."I talked to my staff and decided that's not what we want to do. We'll pick spots and give Sal a day off. We'll look for days -- a Saturday off or a Sunday. We just decided to go that way."
Yost added it will be up to the coaching staff to make sure Perez, who appeared in a career-high 150 games in 2014, gets time off in 2015.
"You got so many off-days early in the season," Yost said. "[The rest] comes into play about June, July and August. But then in September, that's it [for days off] unless we have a big lead."
Royals' Pena thinks extra offseason reps will help him earn a spot
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(2/27/15) Royals backup catcher Francisco Pena told reporters that his reps for the Dominican Republican in the Caribbean Series earlier in February could help him win a spot on the roster this spring, per MLB.com.
"I feel like the more games you play, the more chances you have to get better," Pena said. "I love baseball. It's what I know. I was inspired by watching the World Series, and I saw how much hard work and sacrifice it takes to get there. That's also something my father taught me, to work hard and be prepared."
Pena was a September callup last season, but only made one appearance in the majors in 2014. Although it's early in camp, Pena has an outside shot to make the club. The Royals have Erik Kratz currently listed as the backup to starter Salvador Perez.

|(8/19/14) Royals catcher Erik Kratz made a huge impact Monday, in a 6-4 win over the Twins.
Kratz entered the game as an injury replacement in the seventh inning and slugged two solo home runs in his two at-bats, providing the winning margin for the game.
Kratz has been productive since returning to the Royals in late July, hitting 6 for 13 with two home runs, two RBI and three runs scored.
