Preseason Outlook

The 25-year-old left-hander had a solid rookie season last year with the Blue Jays and has the potential to become the staff's new ace with the trade of Roy Halladay. He looked like a future ace before the break, going 7-3 with a 3.00 ERA and a .252 batting-average against -- Halladay-like numbers. He wore down as the season went on, but a full season of experience should have strengthened him for the grind this go around. If not for a 5.54 ERA and .312 batting-average against in the second half, Romero might have challenged for Rookie of the Year honors in the AL. You likely will have to be wary of a letdown as a sophomore, especially since the Blue Jays are a rebuilding organization battling in a brutal division, but Romero is a solid pick if he is on the board after the top 75 Fantasy starting pitchers on Draft Day.
