|Ryan Hanigan back for second game Friday |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(6/27/14) Rays catcher Ryan Hanigan has indeed returned to the lineup for the nightcap of the Friday doubleheader in Baltimore, as Joe Maddon indicated before the opener.
Hanigan, who has been out with a neck ailment since Monday, returns with a stat line of .236/.318/.364.
|Ryan Hanigan is widely regarded as an excellent defensive catcher, but few managers other than Dusty Baker would have given him so much playing time over an up-and-comer like Devin Mesoraco, who was one of the top prospects in baseball before forcing his way onto the roster in 2012. With the firing of Baker this offseason, Hanigan became expendable and ultimately landed with the Rays -- a team with a legitimate need at catcher. With excellent plate discipline, Hanigan has always been a decent on-base guy and probably won't hit .198 again, but with no other offensive skills to speak of, he has never made much of an impact in Fantasy. You could get by with him as a second catcher in an AL-only league, but he's not a priority pick.
