(5/25/13) Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval (illness) had an uneventful night in his first game back Friday against the Rockies.
Sandoval finished 0 for 4 with one strikeout in a 5-0 defeat. He has been held without a hit in his last five at-bats.
Sandoval is hitting .299 with eight home runs and 34 RBI in 187 at-bats.

(5/24/13) Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval (illness), who appeared as a pinch-hitter Wednesday, returned to the starting lineup Friday against the Rockies.
Sandoval is 3 for 6 with a home run against Friday's starter Tyler Chatwood. He is hitting .306/.343/.475 with eight homers and 34 RBI in 183 at-bats.

(5/22/13) Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval was not in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Nationals due to an illness, but he was able to appear as a pinch-hitter. Sandoval grounded out to third base in the eighth inning of a 2-1, 10-inning loss.
Sandoval is expected to be fine, especially with an off-day Thursday.

Sandoval is expected to return soon. Joaquin Arias gets the spot start at third base.

(5/22/13) Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval hit his eighth homer, a walk-off two-run shot to give his club an extra-inning victory Tuesday against Washington.
Sandoval finished 2 for 5 with a run scored and two RBI. Sandoval didn't strike out in his five at-bats and his strikeout rate is down to 9.1 percent of plate appearances, which would match his career low from his rookie season in 2008, when he hit .345.

| As he is about to enter his sixth season in the major leagues, Pablo Sandoval isn't getting any easier to get a bead on. In 2009 and 2011, the Panda wowed Fantasy owners with 20-plus homers and batting averages well in excess of .300. But in the seasons immediately following those two campaigns, his numbers trailed off decisively. He has also hurt owners in each of the last two seasons with time missed due to injuries, and in 2012 a broken hamate bone and a strained hamstring contributed to him sitting out 54 games. The one thing we can expect from Sandoval is a low strikeout rate, so even when he struggles to hit for power he can be counted on for at least a decent batting average. That's not enough to make Sandoval an elite third baseman, but the potential for extra-base power does make him a top 10 option at the position. (Updated 12/7/12) |
