| Taylor Teagarden nearing game action |

(5/21/13) The Orioles say catcher Taylor Teagarden is a few days from playing in an extended spring training game, the Baltimore Sun reports Tuesday. The game could come Monday.
Teagarden is on the disabled list with a thumb injury and recently had his split removed. He's begun a hitting and catching progression that will lead him to rehab games.

(5/19/13) Orioles catcher Taylor Teagarden will begin a hitting and catching progression Monday as he rehabs from a left thumb injury, MASNSports.com reports Sunday.
Teagarden just had the splint removed from his thumb Saturday. The catcher is not close to going on an injury rehab assignment.

(5/17/13) Orioles catcher Taylor Teagarden, on the 15-day disabled list, had his splint on his injured left thumb removed Friday, according to MLB.com.
Teagarden has been sidelined since April 27. The Orioles have yet to announce a concrete timetable for his return, though he was initially given a 3-4 week recovery timetable when the injury first occurred.

Teagarden is scheduled to visit a hand specialist Thursday in Sarasota, Fla.. He was initially given a 3-4 week recovery timetable.

| Despite an impressive minor-league track record, Taylor Teagarden hasn't amounted to much in the majors. He hit only .158 in 2012, the second time in three years that he hit under .200. Of course, he has a grand total of 162 at-bats during that stretch. He's slated to begin 2013 the same way he ended 2012: as the backup to Matt Wieters. In such as a role, he doesn't figure to play all that much, but based on his track record, that's probably for the best. Teagarden is only relevant in AL-only leagues that require the use of two catchers. (Updated 1/9/13) |
