Fantasy Analysis
Damon can still provide some help with extra-base hits and stolen bases, but his on-base percentage took a serious hit last season with the Rays. Damon is not likely to play the field much this season, if at all, and the lack of a position hurts his value in Fantasy. Owners should look to Damon merely as a late-round option in mixed leagues. 10/04/2011 22:55 Late innings a worry as sluggish bullpen could sink Phils' season
Ben Francisco's improbably three-run homer in Game 3 may make him a hero in Philly for years to come. But Danny Knobler says for now, late innings worry the Phillies as their bullpen could end their season.
10/04/2011 17:18 Rangers hold off Rays in Game 4 to move on to ALCS
Adrian Beltre hit three straight home runs and the Texas Rangers powered themselves back into the AL championship series, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 Tuesday to win their playoff matchup.
10/03/2011 23:39 Lewis stays under radar despite being Rangers' Mr. October
Remember Colby Lewis? He improves to 5-0 in the postseason and helps give Texas a 2-1 series lead. Danny Knobler says the starting pitcher with the most impressive October resume is also the most anonymous.
10/03/2011 21:07 Lewis outduels Rays' Price, Rangers take 2-1 lead
Colby Lewis outpitched All-Star David Price, Mike Napoli hit a two-run homer and the defending AL champions survived a shaky night from the bullpen to hold off the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 Monday night in Game 3 of their postseason series.
10/01/2011 22:49 Wild pitches help sink Rays as Rangers tie series 1-1
Mike Napoli had a tying two-run single before Tampa Bay starter James Shields threw two wild pitches to the same batter, and the Texas Rangers went on to an 8-6 victory over the Rays in Game 2 of the AL division series Saturday night.
Confined to a DH role and no longer much of an on-base threat, Damon still found a taker in the Rays late last offseason, giving them the veteran bat that they sorely lacked. But while his 16 homers and 19 steals were no doubt useful to Rotisserie-league owners, they weren't enough to reel in the Rays again this offseason, leaving Damon's diminished skill set without a place to play. His resurgence in the power and speed categories last year shows he still has something to offer at age 38, but his defensive shortcomings could force him into a part-time role in 2012. Even with full-time at-bats, he's no more than a late-rounder in mixed leagues given his DH-only status and the likelihood he'll take a step back now that he's a year closer to 40. And without full-time at-bats, you're better off passing on him entirely. (Updated 1/27/12)
