Damon starting to come around : Indians outfielder Johnny Damon has reached base in eight of his past 13 plate appearances entering Saturday's game against the Marlins. Damon, who didn't have the benefit of spring training, has finally reached the normal amount of at-bats players get in the preseason. "We've seen signs," manager Manny Acta told MLB.com. "Over the last three games, he's got some walks. To us, that was a sign that he's seeing the ball better. He was getting himself out with pitches that were off the plate away and off the plate inside. The last few games, he's gotten better at-bats. We feel that he's almost there." (Updated 05/19/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Damon entered Saturday hitting just .167 (9-for-54) through 15 games for the Indians. "It's been a process for Johnny to get re-acclimated to Major League pitching," Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said. "I think we've seen over the last week or so the quality of his at-bats continue to improve. His command of the strike zone has continued to improve. His swing mechanics are getting better, and he's looking more comfortable in the batter's box. So I think we'll begin to see some results more consistent with how Johnny has performed in the past." Fantasy owners should continue to view Damon as more of an AL-only option. (Updated 05/19/2012).

05/13/2012 00:31 The Lineup: David Wright is doing all right
We all know what Josh Hamilton is doing, but he's not the only one hitting better than .400, as David Wright had four hits on Saturday to push his average to .402. While Jose Bautista started slow, he's heating up, thanks to his return to Minnesota.
Confined to a DH role and no longer much of an on-base threat, Damon still found a taker in the Rays late last offseason, giving them the veteran bat that they sorely lacked. But while his 16 homers and 19 steals were no doubt useful to Rotisserie-league owners, they weren't enough to reel in the Rays again this offseason, leaving Damon's diminished skill set without a place to play. His resurgence in the power and speed categories last year shows he still has something to offer at age 38, but his defensive shortcomings could force him into a part-time role in 2012. Even with full-time at-bats, he's no more than a late-rounder in mixed leagues given his DH-only status and the likelihood he'll take a step back now that he's a year closer to 40. And without full-time at-bats, you're better off passing on him entirely. (Updated 1/27/12)
