Preseason Outlook

Delgado tried his best to play through a hip injury last year, hitting .298 with a .914 OPS in 94 at-bats. But in the end, he couldn't take the pain, following in the footsteps of Alex Rodriguez, Chase Utley and Mike Lowell by succumbing to surgery on his torn labrum in May. He didn't bounce back from the procedure the same way that foursome did, making him a complete wild card entering this season. Now 37 and recovering from surgery, Delgado might have a hard time getting back to his 30-homer standard, but considering he's just 27 homers short of 500, you can bet he'll try. All the question marks, including whether or not he'll have a full-time role, make him no more than a late-round flier in Fantasy, but you shouldn't write him off completely. Don't forget he hit 38 homers as recently as 2008. (Updated 12/9/09)
