Edmonds decides to retire: The Cardinals announced Friday that OF Jim Edmonds has retired. The 40-year-old signed a minor league deal with St. Louis earlier this month, but his Achilles' was just bothering him too much. "Although I feel that I can still play and contribute, the risk of permanent injury is too much for me to chance," Edmonds said in a statement released by the club. "As much as I regret this announcement, I feel it is for the best." (Updated 02/18/2011)
