Cubs' Fox back on DL with elbow woes: Chad Fox knows his career is in jeopardy after yet another injury to his troublesome right elbow, and he says he's at peace with it. The Cubs placed the right-handed reliever on the 15-day DL on Sunday after he hurt his elbow throwing a pitch during the eighth inning of Saturday's loss to Milwaukee and had to leave the game. Fox said it felt as though he had been hit by a hammer. It's the latest in a series of right elbow problems for Fox, who pitched in only 26 major league games the past five seasons and sat out all of 2006 and 2007 because of injuries to the same elbow. Fox said he had no regrets, taking solace in the fact he at least took another shot at a comeback. "I feel sorry in a way for this organization, because they've given me so much," Fox said. "As a player, you want to be able to go out there and compete and give it all you've got and to get back. And it's hard. It's hard to swallow. But like I said, I've got no regrets."

Fantasy Analysis

Fox has twice undergone Tommy John surgery, and after his second elbow ligament replacement operation, he fractured his pitching elbow. Fox, who had his arm in a sling in the clubhouse before Sunday's series finale against the Brewers, said he will have X-rays Monday. After that, he might see noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews to assess his options. Fox said he is open to having surgery -- but only to a point. "You get to this point, for me, I don't want to start messing with quality of life," Fox said. "I don't want to subject myself to that just to keep chasing. It is what it is." Fox called his elbow a "clouded mess," noting he already has three screws in his arm from a previous procedure. Still, Fox said he didn't hold anything back on the mound this season -- a promise he made to Cubs GM Jim Hendry. "I always told Jim and this organization, 'I'm going to give it everything I've got,'" Fox said. "We'll just see." Cut and ignore him in all formats now. He might just retire (again) after this one.

Back-to-back homers by Counsell, Braun lift Brewers
Craig Counsell and Ryan Braun hit back-to-back homers and the Milwaukee Brewers scored six times in the seventh inning before the lights went out in a 12-6 win over the injury-depleted Chicago Cubs on Saturday night.
